Don't get me wrong, I am most certainly not a Mac hater I'm just not a Mac user as I'm sure you guys know, there is a big difference. Yes, I realize these are stupid questions, but I haven't even turned on that mac in about a year, and I didn't like using it when the CD drive was functional.

IIRC, at some point we installed OS 7.6 (free upgrade with some software or something off of a CD ROM), so maybe the driver came with that, and therefore it was already present before they installed this newer drive? So, I'm thinking it is a driver problem, but I can't find any drivers for the CD ROM drive, and I only have the original drivers that came with the computer. I called the place that replaced the drive a couple years ago, and they think that the drive is now dead, but I find that a little to coincidental, being that I did reformat right before it died.

If I open the audio player, it says that the CD ROM drive is not responding. Now, whenever I put a CD ROM in, the drive spins up, but I don't have access to the CD (nothing appears on screen). Upon booting up after reinstallation, I couldn't even get the CD containing the system software out (used a paper clip). They replaced it with an 8X CD ROM drive, and it worked fine up until a week ago when I reformatted and reinstalled the original software that came with the Mac. A couple years ago, the original 4X SCSI CD ROM drive died and we had it replaced at an authorized service center (that was stupid and expensive I now know). We have a Performa 6218CD PowerPC, OS 7.5.
